Evolution Gaming Shuts Down Netent Live Studios
The employees of NetEnt AB are facing a time of uncertainty after the popular iGaming software company announced its plans to downsize following its acquisition. Evolution Gaming, the new owner, is considering a significant restructuring.
According to reports from the Times of Malta, Evolution recently acquired NetEnt for $2.12 billion. One of their first decisions was to close NetEnt’s live casino studios in Qormi, putting many employees at risk of losing their jobs.
Short-lived Success
NetEnt AB currently has over 1,000 employees worldwide and had just expanded their live dealer casino offerings three months ago. However, experts had predicted this outcome as Evolution Gaming already operates nine live casinos and blackjack rooms in the same region.
Statements from Authorities
The Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority approved the merger between Evolution and NetEnt in September. The Ministry for the Economy, Investments, and Small Businesses is now discussing options for replacing positions for those affected by the restructuring effort.
In response to this situation, authorities in Malta have set up a helpline for those at risk of losing their jobs to register on JobsPlus training and employment platform. The Ministry’s official statement says, “While we recognize Evolution Gaming’s commitment to the local economy, the government is working with all parties involved to ensure a smooth transition for employees affected by the restructuring. JobsPlus is also providing personalized recommendations and job-matching services for those impacted.”
